The importance of vast landscape to national identity has recently become the subject of mass – tourist interest. The experience of clean and green uniquely NZ, place to educate visitors – inform and widen public experience of the differing free tracks for walks. Shows ways in which culture and landscape are knitted together with a few familiar images in this photo exhibition.

With out the visit we may not understand such pictures as anything other than picturesque pleasures for our gaze. Maybe commentaries on rapidly and ruthlessly transformed NZ countryside – still green and without a simultaneously fascinating and terrifying industrial skyline. The Paihia country side is now seemingly inevitably compromised by pylons and old phone-masts where the privacy of nature has been exploited by an economy of tourist recreation. For locals a pleasing prospect.
